How to Spend a Rainy Day in Corinth
July is Mississippi’s rainiest month. It’s also one of the hottest times of the year, especially in the South. Throughout July, families are on the go, taking summer vacations and spending quality time together. Fortunately, Corinth has several hot (or not-so-hot) spots for visitors to cool off and stay dry during their summer travels.
Take shelter at Borroum’s Drugstore, and you’ll be transported to the past. Borroum’s is the oldest continuously operating drugstore in Mississippi, but it’s also an old-fashioned soda fountain. Peruse Native American or Civil War relics while waiting on your prescription to be filled. If you work up an appetite, try the famous slugburger, a mixture of ground pork, soy flour, and spices that are deep fried in vegetable fat and served on a bun with mustard, onion, and pickles.
Traveling with a train enthusiast? If so, head to the Crossroads Museum for some indoor exploration of the famous Corinth crossroads. Soon, the museum will offer conductor-level views of passing trains from a second-level viewing platform above a historic fire truck display. In addition to learning about railroad history, the museum is home to several artifacts and information pertaining to the Civil War, as well as relics related to the city’s industrial and cultural history.
Another nearby museum offers a completely different (and ultra refreshing!) experience. The Corinth Coke Museum boasts a large collection of Coca-Cola memorabilia and old-fashioned drink machines. Crack open a cold Coke while strolling around in the air-conditioning. You’ll learn about The Corinth Coca-Cola Bottling Group and the rich history of Coke in the city.
For a more immersive indoor experience, the Corinth Civil War Interpretive Center offers interactive exhibits detailing the war, the Battle of Shiloh, the siege, the occupation, and the Battle of Corinth. There’s also a multimedia presentation on the Battle of Shiloh and a video on the Battle of Corinth. Don’t miss the life-sized diorama of earthwork construction and the full-scale reproduction of a 2-gun battery that explains the importance of field fortification through the course of the Civil War.
Rev up your Corinth experience with a trip to Lake Hill Motors Vintage Motorcycle Museum. The avid biker in the family might appreciate a tour of motorcycles from all different eras. While the evolution of these different bikes can be seen firsthand, the museum also displays many race-related rarities.
Once you’ve spent all day touring each museum in town, end your day at V.Taco’s rooftop bar. The cozy screened porch is a perfect place to listen to the soothing sounds of rain without getting wet. Relax with a cold margarita and a build-your-own meal. The kids will enjoy evenings of karaoke and live music.
